Wisconsin Rent Assistance

The Wisconsin Rent Assistance Program is a federally funded program by the Housing Authority of City of Milwaukee whose aim is to assist low and moderate income families. They are given the rental subsidy. The assistance is paid to the property owner each month. The eligibility criteria for families is strict and restricts the families and allow them to pay approximately 30% to 40% of their income towards their monthly rent. The rest of the amount in the rent is paid directly to the landlord by a check..

The Wisconsin rent authority will check for the reasonable amount for each rental unit. Then the rent is compared to private sector units of similar type and size in the near vicinity. They also verify the worthiness of the rent by various factors. If the rent seems to be unreasonable then the staff will contact the landlord and will enter into an negotiation. In case when there is no amicable solution, the tenant must seek another place.

The rent is calculated by the Fair Market Rent programmed. It defines rent including the utilities and all maintenance charges. The Regulations do not allow the participant families to spend more than 40% of their income on rent.
